Ossia received its 6th CES Innovation award thanks to its advanced technology that will allow people to charge their devices wirelessly while on the move. Imagine a world where phones are always on 100% battery without the need to be plugged into a charger or attached to a charging pad. Moving to a cord-free future has many advantages. If homes and businesses eliminate cords, individuals and business owners save money on utility bills, reduce battery dependency, and improve convenience. Moreover, it gives home interiors a cleaner look.

Ossia is ready to take the first steps toward this vision with the Cota Home Transmitter. This device sends power via the air to charge compatible devices. Ossia has been working on this technology for a while, and it still remains in its infancy, but the company is developing more efficient ways for companies to utilize the technology faster with the Cota Universal Base. The base will receive energy from the transmitter and provide it to devices plugged into the UCB, making it easier for the tech to retrofit existing products and get new products on the market sooner.

The Tech Behind The Cota Real Wireless Power

According to Ossia, the method of transmission is similar to Wi-Fi. It begins with The Cota Power Receiver, a device compatible with the Cota Home Transmitter. The receiver will send a beacon signal to the tower, and once received, the transmitter begins sending power back using 2.4GHz or 5.8GHz signals. Ossia says that these signals will not cause any interference with existing Wi-Fi and Bluetooth signals. Device-transmitter communication happens 100 times per second to send energy to devices at a distance safely. As a result of this efficient design, energy will be delivered simultaneously to all Cota-enabled devices.

Those wondering if the technology is safe will find it as harmless as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It offers a sense of security as well. If this equipment is used with protection devices such as Carbon Monoxide or Smoke detectors, individuals will not have to worry about delayed emergency alerts due to uncharged batteries. The receiver can be built into any electronics, from laptops and smartphones to smart lamps and other smart home products.

Consumers will start to see benefits once manufacturers begin implementing Cota with their products. The Universal Base should be a big step forward to fast-track the process. However, businesses are likely to get their hands on the technology before everyday consumers. The Universal Base will be available for pre-order at the upcoming Mobile World Congress, but it won’t ship until the end of the year. There's also a soon-to-be commercially available product launching with the ARCHOS Cota Wireless Power Security Camera, which makes so much sense since outdoor security camera systems are difficult to set up and charge. A wire-free future is on the horizon, thanks to Ossia.
